L. Mi. Small Rivermout Lake, Bowfin Quest, Bass, Day 1
Heard about a small, shallow, weedy river mouth lake mid way up Lake Michigan's West shore. Reported to be great for Bowfin, with Bass, and Pike. My wife wanted to go camping by Lake Michigan, I found a campground so off we went. I had 4 prime time evening hours on the lake, there is lots of shore line access and a couple obvious easy kayak launch spots. There is a low bridge (3 feet) that blocks access to bigger boats but lots of fishing pressure from shore and all kinds of small boats.
Got a 12 inch bass fly casting a White 2/0 Dive Banger popper along a weed edge. On the far shore casting to a steel sea wall got an 18 incher, also 1 for 2 on 15 inch bass and I got a small pike.
The small bass was very stout. There were lots of rain bait, 1 inch minnows everywhere.
