MFFC Michigan Thumb Smallmouth Outing, Small Clear Creek

Friday, the wind had shifted so I headed down the other side of the Thumb.  This small clear creek is easier to access on foot because of several steep shallow riffles.  It's a 2 mile paddle from the closest access I know.  I saw 4 guys hooking fish wadding out from the rock bar.  Inland from them I found some deep dark water and looped around it to anchor upwind.  On a #4 coyote fur, beadhead tied like a Clouser, I caught 4 small bass on 4 cast.  This was unusual, I kept track and got 16 bass on the first 16 casts.

That's ridiculous... unless your hooking about 20 bass and when one gets off, another is on it right away. When I brought in a bass there would frequently be another dogging it, sometimes bigger than those I was caching. Later I tried top water patterns, a Foam Diver worked well in dark natural colors or flashy white.

This deeper trough was actually the river mouth channel and I followed it in, picking spots between shore fishermen to anchor against the shore and cast from.  I got snagged and pulled myself out to free it and saw there were bass in the deep spots bigger than I was getting. I also saw what looked like a Bowfin or a Burbot.  I finished with 5 rock bass and got some of the larger bass fishing deep or also shallow spots with floating foam divers.
