A Day on the Water
16) Pere Marquette Lake & Tippy Dam, August 19 & 20
Center Pin Jigs Kayak Fishing Mopworm Jigs
Basically zero Salmon in either spot. Saw one dead King Salmon in PM Lake and foul hooked one salmon at Tippy. Two Summer Steelhead were on stringers when I arrived, no more were hooked. I got 2 rainbows, 13 and 8 inches on jigs under a float, #6 White Mopworm and #8 Brown Intruder Jig. A couple Salmon broke the surface.
22) Lower AuSable Bass Oct 23
On the end of the pier several guys were casting spoons, plugs, jigs or fishing minnows. They caught or hooked a couple of smallmouth, one guy caught a very long Sheephead that was in extremely bad health due to age, disease or maybe having been gut hooked some time ago. I caught an stout 18 inch bass and lost a smaller one. 4 to 6 foot swells were rolling in and bouncing back and forth between the two pier heads making for a very action packed bobber presentation. The fish came to a #6 White Mopworm Jig set to 11 feet...
20) 10mm Yellow Glo-Beads take Browns behind Spawning Salmon.
Center Pin Beads Center Pin Jigs Steelhead & Salmon
Lots of big and small Salmon jumping at Tippy Dam above the coffer on Sept 27: I saw a 6 pound and a 17 inch Brown caught.  Below the coffer, I got two 14 inch Browns and lost a bright 6 lb bright Coho or Steelhead on 10mm Yellow Spot on Painted Glo-Beads, Above the coffer, I also fair hooked a big salmon and caught an 11 inch rainbow on a new Brown Balanced jig tie. I was fishing not so deep under the bobber and only foul hooked one salmon. A Balance jig will hang horizontally and drift and jig naturally under...
21) Tippy, October 10 and 17th. Salmon and Steelhead are in
On October 17th, I was 1 for 2 on big bright steelhead above the coffer. On October 10th, I got a big healthy black King to hit. The week before I got two 14 inch browns and a 12 inch rainbow. All fish were on 10mm Yellow Glow Beads except the bright steelhead that broke off Saturday who hit a 8mm Yellow Glow Bead.
19) Fall Top Water Bite, N. Channel, St. Clair R. Sept 19
Bob's Banger Popper Kayak Bass
Big number of hits on Poppers, 5 good bass landed, many more missed, many lost partly due to unusual circumstances. I screwed up what was probably the Smallmouth of a life time. No Pike even though I tried. The North Channel of the Saint Clair River often runs crystal clear, today it was dissapointingly cloudy, 5 foot visibility at best, when the sun got higher you could make out the color of the bottom in 7 feet.  I started with a big 3/0 Chartreuse Marabou Banger. Casting it to the cottage breakwalls and shallower inlet channels as I drifted down steam. ...
