A Day on the Water

The first 2 days, I was out fished by over 2 to 1 when I shared a spot with any competent fisherman.  I continued fishing long after they had left and managed to get one fish each day on an 8mm bead, either  bright or pale Yellow UV Painted Glow Beads.  On April 19th I fished mostly without any serious competition and I hooked 6 fish fair and landed 3 of those.  After I release the first Hen, the next drift I hooked a hen that jumped and looked just like the one I had just released down stream.  I thought it...

Sunday I put in at the Proud Lake public access and paddled across Lower Proud L Lake to briefly drift down the outlet channel.  I caught a brown and lost another trout on a #8 Brown MopWorm Leech Jig.  Below the dam, I drifted through and fish mediocre looking water, paddling through shallower water.  At a good Marsh hole, nothing was jumping and it took a while to connect with a #12 Bead Head Brown Drake swimming Nymph that worked so well last time.  I got more fish as the trout became more active.  When they were jumping well, I got nothing on...

The DNR stocks Browns and Rainbows upstream of Wixom Rd. in early April.  They are catch and release, artificials only until the last Saturday in April.  On a random stretch of river you might get one or two fish while covering 100 yards of river.  Thursday evening I kayak fished 200 yards down from the launch at the Wixom Road Bridge, no fishing pressure but there and no good holes.  I got two browns 11* and 15* inches.  Actually they were about an inch shorter because they had no fins or stubs of fins.  After getting next to no response on a couple of...

Tough day to catch fish, I still got 2 Lakers, one on the Chrome-Blue stripe, 3/4 ounce KO Wobbler Spoon.  The other took a 1/0 Mag Flash Jiggy fly, (White, Pearl & Silver with Blue Flash Topping).  Many fish had been caught before I got there, the pier was packed and a large Ice flow had just drifted up against the middle of pier making that part unfishable.  More Ice arrived and choked off the entire  deep channel side of the pier.  The lower 40 yards of pier only had about 40 feet of ice jammed against it.  I joined...
