I tied up 3/0 and 4/0 Bullet Dog Walk the Dog Prototypes. The 4/0 Bullet Dog is not available now. It had better action and once it warmed up enough, it became very popular with pike. It got a small bass and maybe got hit by 3 pike, the. The last pike was bigger than average and hit in a thicket of stout cattail stumps. He tangled the leader badly. I could see him in the clear shallow water. He had enough space to keep lunging violently against the tangled leader and he cut the 40lb bite leader.
I will tie more 4/0 and 5/0 Bullet Dogs and later a 3/0 Bullet Dog Prototype but with a marabou & flash tail like the Chaos Agent shown.
I started with the 2/0 Chartreuse Great Lakes Jiggy which got 4 Pike, they did not come to it aggressively, and frequently hit on a long pause as it fell to the bottom.
The 3/0 Bullet Dog got the first sluggish bass, and some pike. A 3/0 Marabou Banger got more average pike but I was on a quest to get a big Pike like I had seen come to 3/0 Marabou Bangers in past trips. I put on the 4/0 Musky Banger and at first it seemed the smaller pike didn't want to actually eat it. As it warmed up more they all wanted to eat it.
The big pike came with a lunging partially air born strike back in a pocket surrounded by cattails. I saw him come out, swimming right under the kayak with the big popper on the outside of his jaw. He put up a modest fight out in the open.
As the evening wore on I got more savage Pike hits, 2 from Pike as big or bigger than the one I landed. The big Pike were briefly hooked so there was no chance they would come back to hit again. I also lost 2 good bass about 18 inches and landed one 18 incher at almost dark. I finished with 13 mostly average Pike and 2 bass over 15 inches.
