A Day on the Water

Very few steelhead at Tippy Dam, we may see a couple lean years due to Covid reducing hatchery production.  Natural Reroduction Rivers may be better than normal if there is less competition from hatchery fish out in the great lakes.  I got one brown Trout pretty quick on a Nuke Minnow Jig.  I got a small skipper steelhead on an 8mm UV Big Hole Orange bead.  He seemed to hit after I had retrieved it several feet.  I stuck with that a wile longer before trying 3 other bead colors and 3 other jig colors, nothing.  First cast with a...

February 22 was the second day of a warm spell and expected to be low wind and Clouny-Drizzly.  At the last minute they took the rain out of the forecast.  I fish this great local Bass and Pike spot, 1.5 square miles of diked in shallow weedy water adjacent to lake Erie.  The first patch of cattail cover I came to yielded 5 pike casting a flashy 1/0 Bead Head White-Charteuse Great Lakes Jiggy ot the cattail edges and pockets.  Three of them were average or lager. I had a vendor's booth at the Greater Cincinnati Fly Show.  I sold lots of new colors and sizes of Clouser Minnows, Poppers, Eggs, Trout Flies, Foam, Hooks, Beads, Flashabou and synthetic materials.  Up next is the Three Rivers Fly Show near Forte Wayne Indiana on September 17.

I was visiting with family in Gamboa Panama located where the Chagres River joined the Lake Gatun impoundment.  Here we are on a jungle Hike with Linda Sanchez.  My wife took the picture.
