A Day on the Water
Snake Head & PeaCock Canal Kayak Access

I found this Snake Head carcass at one of the many great kayak access points along the Hwy 441 canal. Florida DNR no longer supports killing Snake Heads. This photo is looking back along the Hwy 441 canal to the bridge where I first got some hits from peacock bass. It was there that an unknown creature poked its smooth brownish black snout at me through the water's surface. In the later live snake head photo you can see the dark eyes and streamlined jaw blend with the smooth shape of its head. That fish poked his head and eyes...

Slow at Tippy Dam, Got 2 Trout on Jigs, Decemner 7, 2023

Only a few cars in the lot. I had lots of room on the water for long drifts with float tackle. Got both fish far downstream covering a lot of water. If there had been more fishermen there, I probably wouldn't have got them. If it had been more crowded there probably would have been more steelhead. Nothing hits on many colors of beads tried. Spent a lot of time fishing the Nuke Minnow jig and got one 11 inch brown and I landed another hooked in the dorsal fin. Got a 15 inch Steelhead Skipper on an Oliive Ruber...
Easy Reel Handle Restraint in action

Many fly reels will reel in your shooting line while you are false casting, casting and retrieving. This is more of a problem with heavier tackle making long cast and retrieving energetically. As you cast and rotate the rod, the friction free one way bearing will allow the reel to turn both as you accelerate the back cast and stop the forward cast. With this simple reel restraint, you can false cast, cast and retrieve all day and your reel will not take in an inch of shooting line. You can quickly lifted it off the reel handle when...
